About the event

K Mark Takai graduated from Pearl City High School in 1985.  At PCHS, he was the Student Government President, editor of the school paper, and a champion swimmer.  He then attended the University of Hawai'i at Manoa where he was the ASUH President, editor of the Kaleo newspaper, and a champion swimmer.  He was elected as a State Representative for the Pearl City and Aiea Communities for 20 years.  He furthered his career and was elected to the US Congress to represent our state of Hawai'i.  Mark also joined the Hawaii National Guard and became a Lieutenant Colonel.  He always supported public education and the military.  He was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and passed away on July 20, 2016.  This walk is to continue his legacy and help support cancer research.
